Who Do You Say That I Am?

lauren-kilbourn120Rev. Lauren Kilbourn,
Homily, Mar 4, 2012

At the beginning of our Gospel text today, if we look in reverse, which unfortunately you don't have in your bulletin, if you look at the very beginning of the chapter, Jesus asks his disciples a question, "Who do you say that I am?" The disciples responded. Some say John, others say Jeremiah. Jesus asks them again, "Who do YOU say that I am?"...

Tad Richard on Stewardship

tad-richard-120Tad Richard
Homily, Feb 26, 2012

I’ve been asked this morning to give my story of Stewardship, in the hopes that, perhaps, my story will resonate with some of you and invoke the Spirit of giving within you during your discernment. But I know some of you are very scientific and calculating in your thought process, so let me just begin by offering two statistics: About 50% and about 95%.

Now that we’ve got that data out of the way, let’s get back to the story....

Mary Jane Pugh on Stewardship

mary-jane-pugh-120Mary Jane Pugh
Homily, Feb 12, 2012

I've been at St. Paul's for 33 years, and I've been on vestry, I've served on many committees. I have been involved in many ministries, and I have received so much more than I have given. I have been fed spiritually, and today the Youth Group is serving lunch to the Elderberries, so once again I will be fed physically. I've been healed, I've been challenged, I’ve been inspired. I’ve been nurtured.  My husband’s ashes are interred in the Memorial Garden. Someday mine will be also, but I hope not for some time!  St. Paul’s is home to me...

NOTE: Due to a technical problem the recording could not be given. Click the link below for text.

Farmworker (Hermano) Day (Mar 18)

hermano60x40Farmworker Day (Hermano Day)
March 18, 2012
Episcopal Farmworker Ministry

This time of year, many farmworkers from Mexico journey to North Carolina to work on farms, located just an hour from Cary. The men live in remote and isolated labor camps with only the barest of necessities. The Episcopal Farmworker Ministry in Newton Grove, under the direction of Father Tony Rojas, helps these seasonal workers by providing them with a Sacramental Ministry, clothing, food and medicine. St. Paul’s helps by donating work clothes and bedding. Please bring your donations to St. Paul’s on Sunday, March 18. A representative from the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry will be here to tell us about the work being done to help our farmworker brothers in Christ.

The items most needed are:
  • Men’s work pants (sizes 26, 28, 30, 32)
  • Men’s socks and athletic shoes
  • Men’s long-sleeved shirts (smaller sizes)
  • Men’s t-shirts (smaller sizes)
  • Men’s underwear (Small or Medium)
  • Sheets (twin are best), towels, blankets, pillows
  • Also welcome are bags of corn meal (MASECA), dried pinto beans, and rice.

ITEMS CAN BE NEW OR USED. Monetary donations are always welcome. Please make checks out to the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry.

A new option this year is to make a monetary donation earmarked for either a Welcome Kit or a Shower Kit. Please use the memo part of your check for this. A Welcome Kit ($75.00) provides a farmworker with a Shower Kit plus 3 pairs of used work pants, 3 shirts, a towel, a blanket, sheets and a pillow. A Shower Kit ($25.00) will provide a farmworker with a kit containing shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, razors, a washcloth, Bengay, Benadryl, and Ibuprofen.

FEASTING ON GRADTITUE: What Are The Children Saying?
With Feasting on Gratitude on our minds, we recently we asked children here at St. Paul’s to complete the following sentences:
  • I am thankful for St. Paul’s church because…
  • A pledge is a promise. To help St. Paul’s I pledge to...

Hank get's right to the point with his reply:  I am thankful to St. Paul's for "food". and I pledge to St. Paul's to "give a dime".

One child said, I am thankful for... "the pretty Christmas decorations, big Christmas tree, and St. Nicholas' visit." and I pledge... "to be in the Christmas Pageant."

One participant said, “I get a chance to learn more about Jesus and God.” and I pledge…”to be a part of St. Paul’s.”

Lauren L said, “I’m thankful for St. Paul’s church because it’s a place to learn about God. I’m glad I have St. Paul’s as a church where I can let everything go to pray and worship.

Since Stewardship is hosting Coffee Hour on Feb 19, we thought we would share one of the many notes about that part of our Sunday. Bryan writes: I am thankful to St. Paul's for... "Coffee Hour." and I pledge... "to give a dollar, help clean, and be quiet."
