BJ Owens Called to be Rector of St. Andrews Greensboro Print E-mail
Newsflash

BJ-2010The following is a transcript of a letter from The Rev. George Adamik, Aug 28, 2010.

Dear St. Paul's Parishioner,

BJ Owens has accepted the call to become rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Greensboro, NC effective October 1, 2010. I am very excited for BJ along with his wife Jo and his daughter Amelia as they begin this exciting chapter in their lives. BJ's last Sunday with us will be September 19.

Since BJ's ordination to the priesthood, at St. Paul's in 2006, he has served as Associate Rector for Children's and Family Ministry. We will forever be thankful for the wondrous gifts of ministry that BJ brought to us.

While he will be terribly missed here at St. Paul's, St. Andrews will be blessed as they welcome BJ as their new rector.

We will say farewell, and give thanks to BJ on Sunday, September 19 at both the 9:00 and 11:15 services, as well as during a festive Coffee Hour. You are invited to contribute towards a financial gift to BJ. If you would like, please make a check out to St. Paul's and write BJ in the memo line. All checks can be placed in the Sunday offering plate or mailed to St. Paul's to the attention of Chris Lewis.

I invite you to join me in asking God's blessings upon BJ as he responds to thisexciting opportunity in his life.

Faithfully,

The Rev. George Adamik

St. Paul's Endowment Update Print E-mail
Stewardship News

In November of 2009, the Vestry established the St. Paul’s Endowment and commissioned the Endowment Board to develop a set of policies that govern its operation. The Board developed draft policies and conducted a legal review to make sure that the policies are sound. On August 16th, 2010, the policies were endorsed by the Vestry, making the Endowment a reality!

We have already been contacted by a number of parishioners who have made or plan to make commitments to the Endowment. If you are considering such a commitment or would like to know more about the Endowment, please contact Dan Loughlin, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or any of the other Endowment Board members (Kay Burgess, Paul Gregg, Mike McInerney, and Doug Riddle). Alternatively, you can call the church office (467-1477) and indicate your interest.

Stewardship 2011 Print E-mail
Stewardship News

What? Stewardship 2011 already? Say it ain't so! Yes, it is so. Because of a struggling economy and challenging times for many of us, we have decided to improve our stewardship process by starting our planning efforts much earlier.

A handfull of parishioners have now met three times to start the planning process for next year's stewardship campaign. We have already developed timelines and theme options that will be shared in upcoming communications. One key step in this process is to expand our committee to include a wider range of current parishioners.

Here's where you can help. We are forming five subcommittees as an extension of the stewardship committee. The goal with these subcommittees is to break down the many roles and activities that stewardship is responsible for into smaller "skill-focused" areas. In other words, stewardship is about more than calling on fellow parishioners.

We'd like you to consider whether you have the skills and interest to assist any of the subcommittees identified below. If you do, please contact the subcommittee chair listed or Rick Bradley to express an interest. Since we have goals to achieve in the month of September, please respond as soon as possible.

Communications/Marketing Subcommittee, Mike Gorman chair

This committee will further develop the stewardship theme and work to communicate more frequently to the parish. Your marketing and communications skills are needed.

Data Subcommittee, Mike Concini chair

This committee will work with our current database system DBA and look for ways to create a stewardship friendly tool for years to come. Your database and technology skills are needed.

Ministry Liaison Subcommitee, Ricky Barker chair

This committee will work closely with ministry leaders and committees to better connect their efforts to stewardship. Our stewardship program hopes to connect people together through relationships developed through ministry and other committee involvement. Your networking and communication skills are needed.

Research Subcommittee, Ann Lockhart chair

This committee will utilize survey, focus group, and other initiatives to better understand why our parishioners do or do not pledge financially to St. Paul's. Your research, data collection and analysis skills are needed.

Event Planning/Training Subcommittee, insert your name here chair

This committee will primarily organize the caller training program that is currently planned for October. Your event planning and organizational skills are needed.

For further information or subcommittee chair contact information, please contact Rick Bradley at 363-0189.

Adopt a Soldier for 2010 Print E-mail
Outreach News

soldiers-smallSt. Paul's  Veterans and Military Outreach (VMO) participates in the Soldiers' Angels Adopt a Soldier program. We are honored to adopt our fifth soldier, PVT Matthew P. who is stationed in Afghanistan.

Would you like to provide a gift or care package for our adopted soldier? Our goal is to send 2 packages per month. Gifts and care packages do not have to be expensive: you can put together your own box of snacks, hygiene products, and games or magazines. A sign up sheet is in the Narthex. Questions? Contact Brenda St.Laurent, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

St. Paul’s adopted soldiers have expressed their appreciation for the care and support we have shown. Reaching out in this way is one of the most important things that we can do to help bring home healthy heroes; it is very important for them to know that they are loved and supported, and our letters and care packages will prove that.

It's not the "things" that are sent that matter to us, it's the thought. That's the power ALL of you have who take the time to send things. You can change the worst day into the best day, in a split second.
