Advent Lessons and Carols (Dec 20, 2015)

The St. Paul’s Choir will present an Advent Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 4:00 PM. Based on the same program that has been used at Kings’ College, Cambridge for many years, this program consists of nine scripture readings, each followed with a piece of music that in some way relates to or enlarges upon the reading. The musical selections include works by Georg Frederic Handel, Charles Ives, William Mathias, Will Todd, Thomas Pavlechko, and a little known contemporary of Johannes Brahms, Heinrich von Herzogenberg. The music is rich and varied in style and you are sure to hear something new as well as many things that are familiar. Plus there are several Advent hymns for the congregation to join in on. The Bells of Saint Paul’s will perform a wonderful arrangement of “O Come. O Come Emmanuel” that utilizes the singing bells technique, which is akin to Tibetan singing bowls. The event is free and open to the public. Invite your friends!
