In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Our reading this Sunday comes from Isaiah written when the Israelites were in exile in Babylon. They are downhearted and suffering. I think we’ve all had times when we felt all alone and in pain; maybe not on the scale of these Israelites, but sorrowful nonetheless. Thankfully there is good news in this scripture for all of us – hope in the word of God that “endures forever,” in our God that lifts us up, and our in our God that “tends his flock like a shepherd.” These are comforting words that help sustain us and I am grateful that the Advent season invites us to slow down and think how this applies to our world today. Our Advent study allows the youth time during Advent to do this together. We will read some scripture, pray in new and interesting ways, and celebrate in the hope in Jesus’s birth. We start tonight at 6:00 in the Youth Wing. Come join us.
Advent started off in a fine fashion with our play, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” It was such a success and we had over 60 people come see it. Thank you to everyone who made it all possible: the amazing youth actors, our ensemble of angels and shepherds, Kayla our pianist, Brian Rudy our sound guy, parents who helped with lines/costumes/transportation/everything else, and our wonderful director, Emily Luke. This was certainly a community coming together with a big dose of the Holy Spirit thrown in!
Check out the list of events below; there’s lots to do in during Advent.
