Youth News (Sep 1, 2019)

Dear Parents and Youth,

T-Minus one week until Kick-Off and our first Sunday Formation!! I am really excited for all of the opportunities this year has to provide for all of us. Yes, you too parents. Our kick-off is next week and we’ll be gathering at 4 in the youth wing!

Just some food for thought. “Youth are the church of TODAY and tomorrow.  Adults are the church of yesterday and today”

While you’re here, I’d like to ask that you look over the different availability in the signups for the upcoming semester. Please, sign up where you can. If you need time to think about what the rest of your life looks like around that, I completely understand. Do not forget, YOU are a vital part of this ministry. Without the time dedicated by previous volunteers, we would not have built the youth group that we have today.

Youth Ministry News and Events:

  • Kick Off! September 8th 4pm – 7pm:  Ring in the new school year with us at our EYC Kick Off. You’ll get to meet the new Interim Youth Coordinator, and we will have plenty of games, food, and fellowship.

  • Regular EYC September 15th, 22nd, and 29th (5pm-7pm): For EYC in the months of September and October, we will be watching and going into in depth discussions surrounding Harry Potter and connecting the themes of the story to the gospels, teachings from Job, and social justice issues.

  • Confirmation September 22nd: Don’t forget, the Bishop will be joining us at our Sunday service to confirm and receive members of our congregation. I hope you’re able to be there for this wonderful occasion.

  • Safe Church Training  Sunday, September 8 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. in the Chapel:  Safe Church training is designed to increase awareness regarding sexual misconduct and abuse of power, to outline steps toward preventing abuse, to offer ways to intervene when misconduct occurs, and to equip anyone in a position of parish leadership with ways of healing and rebuilding the body of Christ. In-person training is required for (but not limited to)  all clergy serving in the Diocese, church employees, and anyone who works with minors more than four (4) hours per month and who has responsibility for minors overnight or off-site (e.g. youth leaders and youth volunteers). Training is provided through the Diocese by certified trainers. This course must be renewed every three years. Please contact churchschool@stpaulscary.org to register.

  • Volunteers Needed: With a new school year and a new youth minister upon us, new volunteers to participate in youth ministry events are needed! Since I am Interim, I am going to need help from everyone. Your age, how much teen culture you know, and whether or not you’re a Biblical Scholar are not important. What is important is your love for God, a willingness to listen to (and learn from) the youth, and a great attitude. Email Zack Rugen at youth@stpaulscary.org for more information.

I am looking forward to an amazing semester and I hope to see you at the Kick Off,

God Bless,

Zachary Rugen
Interim Youth Program Coordinator
