Lenten Book Read 2020

Please note: All in-person Adult, Youth, and Children’s Formation activities are cancelled through Saturday, March 28. Click to read Fr. George’s message on the coronavirus outbreak. Continue to follow our website for updates and rescheduled events.

You are invited to join us for the Diocesan Wide Lenten Book Read. We will be one of many congregations of the Diocese reading Howard Thurman’s book, Jesus and The Disinherited. The Rev. Howard Thurman (1899-1981) was a minister, educator, theologian and civil rights leader, whose counsel and witness served as a spiritual foundation for the nonviolent civil rights movements and whose writings continue to inspire. He connected with prophetic clarity how the inward journey of faith shapes our concerns for social justice. In Jesus and The Disinherited, Thurman’s seminal work, he wrote about the chains of oppression and how Jesus embodies liberation and transformation for all. These sessions will be clergy led and held in the Youth Wing on Tuesdays March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 10:00 a.m. led by George. Also on Wednesdays March 4, 11, 18, 25 and April 1 at 7:00 p.m. led by Javier. Registration will be necessary as well as ordering the book.

The book is available on Amazon.com as well as other book sellers.
