Bulletin Announcements for Sunday, Aug 11, 2019

END OF SUMMER MINI MINISTRY FAIR: This event will be held in the parish hall during coffee hour on August 25th. Different ministries are highlighted at the three mini fairs each year. Some of the groups present at this fair will include: Acolytes, Adult Formation, Children’s Ministries, Lobster Fest, Men’s Group, Prayer Stitchers, and Veterans and Military Outreach.

RACIAL EQUITY INSTITUTE (REI) PHASE I TRAINING OFFERED AT ST. PAUL’S:
St. Paul’s will host a two-day Racial Equity Institute Phase 1 training on October 9 and 10. Moving the focus from individual bigotry and bias, the REI Phase 1 workshop presents a historical, cultural, structural and institutional analysis. REI, which is based in Greensboro, believes that organizations often work for equity with multiple understandings of racism that rely more on personal feelings and popular opinion that data. These workshops are open to the community and fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged. The Outreach Support Team has set aside scholarship funding to help defray the cost for those who would otherwise be unable to attend. Email Father Javier at javier@stpaulscary.org for more information about scholarship support. The full cost for both days including a light breakfast and lunch is $275 for first-time participants. REI alums can attend for $35. Fees are payable online when registering or by check mailed to REI. You must register in advance on the St Paul’s website for this two-day training, which takes place from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Please only sign up if you can attend both full days. For questions, please contact Kevin McIntire at kvn.mcintire@gmail.com or Aleta McClenney at aleta@att.net.

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS AND SUMMERTIME REFRESHMENTS: The Altar Guild and the Pulse Committee are serving refreshments in front of the church following the 9:00 a.m. service today. The Altar Guild plays an important behind-the-scenes role in preparing the altar for all regular and special worship services. The Pulse Committee contacts parishioners by phone for feedback on parish life. You are invited to stop by, enjoy some refreshments, and find out more about these opportunities to serve our parish.

Next week the Men’s Group will be providing refreshments. This group fosters fellowship while providing various service projects and activities for the parish, including Lobster Fest, Men’s Beach Week, and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.

WOMEN’S STUDY GROUP: The next meeting is Tuesday, August 13, in the bride’s room from 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. We are reading Women Rowing North: Navigating Life’s Currents and Flourishing as We Age by Mary Pipher. We would love to have you join us for our discussion – even if you haven’t finished the book. If you have any questions, contact Joyce Loughlin at loughlin1@mindspring.com.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE 2020: The Diocese of North Carolina is taking a group on pilgrimage at the end of January 2020. The trip includes visits to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Galilee, and more. This is the second diocesan pilgrimage led by Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple, the Rev. Sally French, and the Rev. David Umphlett. To learn more, please visit www.dionc.org/digital_faith/events/3181151. Three parishioners from St. Paul’s have had the opportunity to visit the Holy Land with the diocese and would be happy to share their experiences. Javier Almendárez-Bautista (919) 467-1477, Cindy Kager (919) 417-1344, or Karen Smith (919) 360-1469. Reservations and deposits are due by September 3rd.

THE ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL FOR OUTREACH: Do you have a hobby? Painting, ceramics, quilting, woodworking, something else? The Arts & Crafts Festival is looking for donations of new, handmade items to sell at the St. Paul’s Table. The Festival will take place on Saturday, November 9, with proceeds going to outreach ministries. If you have items to donate, please contact Sally Moller, sbm2@nc.rr.com.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES
Children’s Chapel, for children ages 3 yr. – 2nd grade, will be held today at the 9:00 a.m. service.

Parables and Popsicles: After the 9:00 a.m. service on the playground, we will read a parable with our kids, eat popsicles, and enjoy fellowship with kids and parents.

Church School Teacher Sign-Up: It’s that time of year again! If you feel called to teaching Church School this coming school year, please email churchschool@stpaulscary.org. Please also include what age group you might be interested in helping with and when you last took Safe Church Training.

ADULT FORMATION
Sunday. Join us at 10:15 a.m. today between services in the youth wing for a Rob Bell NOOMA video and informal discussion. These short videos encourage us to examine our faith in new ways, and we’ll finish in time for you to get to the 10:45 a.m. service.

Wednesday. We continue our study of Richard Rohr’s book, The Universal Christ, Chapters 13 and 14 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the youth wing. For more information, including a schedule and video resources, please contact Gerri Batchelor at gerrikairos@gmail.com.

Nextdoor Instructions

Thank you for agreeing to publicize Lobster Fest on Nextdoor. Here are a few things we’re asking:

  1. Please post this as an Event.
  2. Under “Choose Neighbors,” select Yours and Nearby
  3. For Category, choose Festival. Title is “Lobster Fest Cary“.
  4. Cut and paste this description, please:

Lobster Fest Cary brings the fresh taste of Maine lobster right here to Wake County! The lobsters are pulled out of the water, packed in a cooler truck in Maine and driven overnight to Cary. Dine-In and enjoy a social event or Take Out and make your own event – Live Lobster, Cooked Lobster, Lobster Rolls – you decide! Pre-ordering online (lobsterfestcary.org) is a must, as quantities often run out early in the day, and we hate to disappoint Lobster Lovers.
