Two Quick Items
- VBS will be happening this year! I am so thankful that Stacy Lyerly has agreed to step in and plan VBS! Ms. Christa and I will still be involved behind the scenes. VBS will be held July 10-14, 2017 from 9am to 12pm, so please mark your calendars and be on the lookout for more VBS information to be distributed soon!
- Communion Class Registration Forms are linked HERE. Communion Classes are open to all baptized children aged 1st grade and up. If your child is not yet baptized, but plans to be (or wants to be) by April 2 please just let me know. More information is located on the form.

Children’s Ministries is hosting another Socks and Undies Sundays for Note in the Pocket. We will be collecting every Sunday in February. Please bring new socks and undies (in packaging) and new/like new clothing and shoes. All sizes, genders, seasons welcome. Clothing collected is distributed to children in Wake County. The Note in the Pocket Collection bin will be in the Narthex all month long!
Children’s Ministries Information
- The 2016-2017 Children’s Collection Basket is collecting funds to host a Note in the Pocket Sort Day on June 4, 2017. So far we have collected $1148.16 toward our $3000.00 goal.
- Children’s Chapel will be held at the 9am and 11:15am services this Sunday. Children ages 3 through 2nd grade are invited to follow the children’s cross processional to the Youth Wing. Children will return to the Sanctuary during the Peace.
- Clergy Led Chapel will be held at the 9am service this Sunday. This Chapel is for children ages 3rd-5th grade. Please meet Father Javier at the door to the courtyard.
- Sunday School will be held on Sunday in the Education Building at 10:10am. Looking forward to seeing everyone…it is never too late to join Sunday School and all are welcome!
- Our Socks and Undies Drive for Note in the Pocket will be held every Sunday in February. Please bring new (in packaging) socks and undies and/or new or like new clothing and shoes. All sizes, gender, are welcome. Note in the Pocket collection bin is located in the Narthex.
- Volunteer Help Needed: Children’s Ministries needs a volunteer or group of volunteers to organize, create and facilitate VBS! The sky is the limit as far as the date, functions, etc.! Please contact Christine Ingram by Feb. 15 if you (or you and your group of friends) would like to take on this unique opportunity!
Sunday School Lesson: Jesus calls his Disciples, Fishers of Men
Summary of This week’s Lesson
In Matthew 9, Jesus calls his first disciples to follow him: Peter and his brother Andrew, and then James and his brother John. He calls for these fishermen to become “fishers of men.” Later, he asks Matthew, a tax collector, to become a disciple. Altogether Jesus names 12 disciples, then sends them out on their mission with instructions on how to proceed.
The Episcopal Thread
In the Episcopal Church, there is a balance between the ministry of the ordained (bishops, priests and deacons) and the ministry of the laity. Both ministries are needed for the wholeness of the Church. We are all are called to serve God in the Church. Some may be called to ordained ministry, representing Christ and the Church as a model of service to the world and as one who proclaims the Gospel and administers the sacraments. (See the Catechism in The Book of Common Prayer, pages 855-856). However, the fundamental ministry—to be servants of God and to proclaim the Good News of God in Christ—is the ministry of the baptized to which we are all called. Those called to ordination are called not away from baptismal ministry, but rather deeper into it, with a greater focus on the commitment to serve the world in Christ’s name.
Things to ask your children
· How would it feel to be called by Jesus like that, in a way that makes us want to drop everything that we do and go with him?
· Could we do that now?
