News

What’s Happening in Children’s Ministries (week of Sep 17, 2017)

It was so wonderful to see so many of you and your children at church last Sunday!  We had a great morning of formation and fun!  Thank you to all our Sunday School/Formation Teachers!

We are still in need of ONE more 5th Grade Sunday School Teacher.  You would be part of a four person volunteer team and this is a larger class-usually at least 10 children each Sunday and they have very lively discussions!  Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to join this team.  Thank you!

Want to have fun volunteering and helping St. Paul’s?  Join the Lobster Fest Volunteer Team!  Click here to sign up to help at Lobster Fest-there are SO many ways to help!:   http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0545aea62ca3f85-lobster1

Ms. Christa and I will be here volunteering…drop by and say hello when you pick up your lobsters, or even better, sign up to volunteer!  Lobster Fest has sponsored many children’s “needs” in the past, such as our Bibles for Communion Celebration and the Inflatables at Pumpkin Carving.  They also help with so many things at St. Paul’s and in the Community.  Thank you Lobster Fest!

  • Clergy Led Chapel for children in 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade will be held this Sunday at the 9am service.  Please meet Father George at the door to the courtyard during the children’s processional.
  • Children’s Chapel for children ages age 3 through 2nd grade will be held today at the 9am service.  Immediately following the Collect children may follow the cross processional to the Youth Wing.
  • Pre-EYC kicks off NEXT Sunday, Sept. 24.  If you haven’t already done so, please email Christine Ingram to have your 4th or 5th Grader added to the interest list.

Sunday School Lessons this Week:  “Troubles in the Wilderness”

Summary: After crossing the Red Sea, the people of Israel head toward the Promised Land, going through the Middle Eastern wilderness. There is much grumbling among the people. The people eventually stop at Mount Sinai, where Moses goes up the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments from the Lord God. When he descends from the mountain, he finds the people worshiping a golden calf, which they had made themselves. Angry, Moses breaks the tablets of the Ten Commandments. Though God punishes the people for their unfaithfulness, God still leads them to the Promised Land.

Episcopal Thread: On Sundays in Lent, we begin the service of Holy Eucharist with the Decalogue (Ten Commandments) on page 350 in the Prayer Book, followed by a Penitential Order on page 351. This is a reminder that what Jesus called the greatest commandments—to love God and to love our neighbor—do not in any way supersede or make obsolete the Ten Commandments. As Christians and as Anglicans, we are still bound by the commandments that God gave us as a gift in the wilderness.

Things to wonder with your children:

■■ What was our story about today?

■■ How did the people disobey God?

■■ What does this story say about God?

■■ What did we learn today?

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about Children’s Ministries.

See you on Sunday!

Christine
