Together Again: Gathering in Pumpkin Circles

What a fantastic evening we had this past Sunday as over 100 gathered for the Halloween “Drive-in” Pizza and Movie Night. Well over 30 families gathered in the church parking lot each assigned a specific chalked off circle decorated as a pumpkin. Children, and quite a few parents, wore their costumes sitting on blankets and chairs they brought for the festive evening. Each family, gathered in their “pumpkin circle”, ate a pizza along with a choice of assorted beverages.

After the food we joined in a sing along led by Melanie and Steve Williams on guitar. A very sweet and special moment was all of us joining in and recording the singing of Happy Birthday to Mother Alice’s daughter Wendell. We immediately sent the recording to Mother Alice who was celebrating Wendell’s 2nd birthday at home with her family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDELL!!

We watched the classic Halloween movie “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on a 20 foot screen set up in the parking lot. The fun continued with the children’s Trunk or Treating with St. Paul’s Youth. Nearly a dozen cars were ready to welcome the trick or treaters.

It was just wonderful to see so many families, children and youth. It’s been a year and a half since I had seen many of the children and families in person. What a joy that was.

Thanks go to Mother Alice and the Children’s and Youth Ministry leaders and volunteers for all that was done to make this such a wonderful event. We continue to adapt.
