Each year, a couple dozen or so guys from St. Paul’s join together in Emerald Isle, NC. We rent a few oceanfront duplexes and enjoy being at the beach together. It’s a great way to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. The week runs Sunday-Sunday, ending on the last Sunday of April. You can choose to stay for any number of nights.
This is a very casual event. The only planned event is a group dinner every evening, and it’s quite fair to say that we eat very well. We also have hot breakfasts each day, and lunch foods are included as well. We all just pitch in where needed in the kitchen, or cleaning up, or what have you, and it all just happens. The days are pretty much unstructured: walk the sand, swim, fish, telecommute, see the sights, visit restaurants – whatever – just have a great time.
We do very much welcome newcomers.
Dates: Last full week in April.

An excerpt from a newsletter feed from year’s past
…waking up to the sound of waves, venturing down to breakfast, smells of bacon, some have ventured out, some sleeping in, freshly brewed coffee, reading the paper, catching the news, early morning fishing, telecommuting from a deck, a walk on the beach, wading in, jogging Ocean Drive, some golf, a sandwich on the deck, maybe lunch in Beaufort, learning to kayak, a lighthouse excursion, a book on the beach, a conference call with a view, the aquarium, take in some history, kites on the shore, perhaps a swim, prepping for dinner, a warm prayer of fellowship and gratitude, fantastic foods, fine beverages of choice, watch a movie, maybe some cards, perhaps a cigar, sharing good bourbon and scotch, personal reflection at the water’s edge, the evening stars…

I was on the fence about joining in with this ministry for so many years. Looking back, it seemed like I was just putting off the inevitable. For me, the hardest part was finally signing up for a couple days. I am so glad that I finally did. Now, truth told, I did not go back that following year, but it wasn’t because I didn’t want to – I knew I’d be back. But from that first trip, I realized that this was something I wanted to participate in for a very long time – and I have. Hope to see you there as well…
