Dorcas Volunteer News (Apr 10, 2017)

Toilet Paper Collection News:  Our last toilet paper collection was Sunday April 9.  Our goal is to supply half the toilet paper needed by the food pantry so that they can provide 1 roll per month per family member (for families approved to shop at the food pantry).

St. Paul’s Volunteer News:  Many of our Dorcas volunteers go above and beyond the normal duties of the task at hand.  As an example let me tell you about Janet Bowen and Karen Holmes.  Janet volunteers in the book department and recently came across a “First Edition – First Printing” of Gone with the Wind – with the dust jacket.   Janet knew this was valuable and since Karen (who prices clothing) and husband Ken have dealt with many book dealers in connection with Ken’s John Steinbeck collection, they volunteered to check with their contacts to get the best price for this book.  Their efforts resulted in Dorcas getting $2,500 more because of these St. Paul’s Dorcas volunteers.

Other volunteer news – Ted (Lobster Fest) Straub is now volunteering on Thursday in the Training Center.  Welcome aboard Ted.

Dorcas Ministries News:  Dorcas Ministries is in partnership with UNC School of Nursing which provides a Mobile Health Clinic staffed by the UNC nursing faculty and students to provide free health assessment, as well as education and materials to help patients manage chronic illnesses.  The Mobile Health Clinic is on site at the Dorcas Plaza from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month.

Dorcas Ministries is already planning the 2017 Thanksgiving Breakfast on November 9, 2017 at Prestonwood Country Club.  If you are interested in sponsorship contact Rose Cornelious at rcornelious@dorcas-cary.org or call 984-333-0059.

Contact Information:  The Dorcas Thrift Shop is located at 187 High House Road in Cary.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or learning more about Dorcas Ministry, contact me at nfierke@bellsouth.net or call me at 919-467-8807.

Nextdoor Instructions

Thank you for agreeing to publicize Lobster Fest on Nextdoor. Here are a few things we’re asking:

  1. Please post this as an Event.
  2. Under “Choose Neighbors,” select Yours and Nearby
  3. For Category, choose Festival. Title is “Lobster Fest Cary“.
  4. Cut and paste this description, please:

Lobster Fest Cary brings the fresh taste of Maine lobster right here to Wake County! The lobsters are pulled out of the water, packed in a cooler truck in Maine and driven overnight to Cary. Dine-In and enjoy a social event or Take Out and make your own event – Live Lobster, Cooked Lobster, Lobster Rolls – you decide! Pre-ordering online (lobsterfestcary.org) is a must, as quantities often run out early in the day, and we hate to disappoint Lobster Lovers.
