Youth News (Mar 18, 2018)

Dear Parents and Youth,

For this week we’re down to three logos for upcoming events! Last week the ASP Spaghetti Dinner and the bowling trip were very successful. Thank you to ALL the people who helped make them happen. Please consider helping with the “Night in My Car” this coming Friday night, our first Community Garden workday on Saturday,  and the Senior Luncheon on March 25th. They’re great events and service opportunities in themselves, but they’re also lots of fun and great fellowship events. There’s more information below.

Regular Events

  • Sunday School 10:15-11 am: The lesson Sunday is entitled “Success & Failure: Working for Success.” Middle School meets in the Youth Wing (go straight there, snacks are provided). High School meets in Room 10 and will continue to look at faith and civic engagement.

  • Last Confirmation Class Sunday 10:15-11 am: We will meet in the Curry Center.

  • No EYC Sunday:  We just spent a “Night in My Car” raising money for Family Promises, so we’ll take Sunday night off.

Upcoming Dates

  • Night in My Car 3/16-17: Instead of the 30 Hour Famine this year, we are going to raise money for Family Promises. We are having a different kind of lock-in – spending the night in your car to experience a night that a family experience homeless might – sleeping in a car. Come to St. Paul’s at 7 pm, we’ll have some education and games, and then we’ll sleep in cars. We’ll be done on Saturday at 12 noon after we work on our community garden.

  • Community Garden Work Day, Saturday, March 17th 10 am-12 pm: We have received a grant to build a community garden and one of our youth, Emily Schertz, is coordinating this as her GS Gold Award Project. COme on Saturday to help build the 3 beds and fill them with soil. Wear weather-appropriate clothes, bring gloves and shovels or wheelbarrows if you have them. Also, bring a water bottle but we’ll have some snacks for you. Adults are welcome to help too.

  • Senior Luncheon 3/25 12:30-2: We are inviting our senior parishioners for lunch again this year and we need your help. There is a need for kitchen help (cooking/prep) on Saturday 3/24 and then youth and adults to help on Sunday 3/25 from 11:00 am until we are done around 2:30. The sign up is here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d49afaa2fa7fb6-senior2. This is a very popular event that our seniors really enjoy.

Nextdoor Instructions

Thank you for agreeing to publicize Lobster Fest on Nextdoor. Here are a few things we’re asking:

  1. Please post this as an Event.
  2. Under “Choose Neighbors,” select Yours and Nearby
  3. For Category, choose Festival. Title is “Lobster Fest Cary“.
  4. Cut and paste this description, please:

Lobster Fest Cary brings the fresh taste of Maine lobster right here to Wake County! The lobsters are pulled out of the water, packed in a cooler truck in Maine and driven overnight to Cary. Dine-In and enjoy a social event or Take Out and make your own event – Live Lobster, Cooked Lobster, Lobster Rolls – you decide! Pre-ordering online (lobsterfestcary.org) is a must, as quantities often run out early in the day, and we hate to disappoint Lobster Lovers.
