Youth News

From Leah’s email of Sep 30, 2015:

Dear Parents and Youth,

I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

Leviticus 26:4

Life of the church goes on, rain or shine. And we’ll be busy this weekend with Lobster Fest on Saturday and Blessing of the Animals on Sunday. The forecast is for more rain, but at least lobsters and lobster rolls will be just the ticket for a cool, rainy day. Unfortunately, all those lobsters will have to be cooked outside in the rain. Thankfully, jobs for the youth are indoors! The animals may get a little wet in order to receive their blessing on Sunday, but maybe that will just make it more memorable. Who can forget the bouquet of wet dog?

I hope more youth will sign up to help with Lobster Fest. This is a HUGE fundraiser for the Men’s Group that helps fund both in-reach and outreach ministries. We will be helping the Parish Hall with dine-in customers. It’s not glamorous, but we have fun! There are two shifts: 11-1 or 1-3. Please let me know if you can help and what shift you want.

Here’s the rest of the news for the week:

  • Coffee Hour, this Sunday 10/4: Youth Ministry is hosting Coffee Hour this Sunday and we need your help to make it happen. Here’s the link to sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054daaaa2ba46-youth1.
  • Sunday School: The lesson today is entitled “Relationships: Know Yourself – Embraced by Jesus.” Middle School meets in the Youth Wing (go straight there, snacks are provided) and High School meets in Room 10. The Education Hour is from 10:10-11 am.
  • EYC, Tonight 5-7 pm: The theme for October is “Friends,” a natural segue from last month’s theme of “Welcome.” Come see how friendship is about risky caring and respectful-give-and-take. The evening will consist of fun activities, small group sessions, a devotional time, and dinner. Middle schoolers will start in the Parish Hall and high schoolers in the Youth Wing. Come be friends with us at EYC!
  • Adult Volunteer Orientation, Tonight 4-4:30: For all adults who work with youth – Sunday School or EYC – in the Youth Wing.
  • Parent Orientation Sunday, Tonight 6:30-7: Come early to pick up your youth and we’ll go over “Youth Ministry 101” in the Youth Wing. At least one parent from each family (even if you are a returning parent) should attend.
  • Adult Volunteers: Youth Ministry is still looking for a few folks to be EYC Advisors on Sunday nights. The job is easy and fulfilling: the activities are planned, you help lead them, interact, and most importantly, be with our youth. We want “each student to have multiple godly adults pouring into his or her life.” (Sustainable Youth Ministry, DeVries, 143). Please prayerfully consider this ministry. If you are ready to sign up or have questions, contact me.
  • Parents: we need help providing the meals for EYC. Please go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050d4baeaa229-stpauls to sign up. We need everyone to contribute at least 3 times a year.
  • The Youth Calendar can be found on the St. Paul’s website or here: https://www.google.com/calendar/render#main_7.

I hope to see lots of you at Lobster Fest!

Peace,

Leah Dail
